When it comes to used car dealerships, I’ve encountered three types:
1. Those that buy from auctions and sell vehicles as-is, making no promises.
2. Reputable dealerships—Chevy, Ford, etc.—that have the tools, knowledge, and commitment to selling reliable vehicles.
3. The worst kind—the shady dealers who say anything to make a sale and disappear when issues arise.
Unfortunately, my latest experience was with the third type.
The truck I was looking at had a couple of warning lights on, including the check engine light. My mistake? Trusting the dealer when they said, “I’ll take care of the lights.” That was just the beginning of a nightmare.
After the sale, everything changed. The truck had been lifted, and they used that as an excuse to blame every issue on the modifications. For three months, I kept bringing it back, paying to replace parts that didn’t fix anything. Sound familiar?
I finally had enough. I took the truck to a trusted shop I’ve used for decades, and they fixed everything—something the dealer should have done from the start. In the end, I wasted three months and over $2,500 on unnecessary repairs when it could have all been handled in a single visit to a competent shop.
I’d like to thank CarMart in Huntington, IN for their excellent service and warn others to stay away from Lagg’s Automotive in Huntington, IN.
